How Q Switch Laser Tattoo Removal Works

During your tattoo removal procedure, the YAG Q switch laser directs concentrated light energy at your tattoo, passing safely through your outer skin and targets the ink below. What to Expect During Your Appointment

When you visit Laser & Wellness Center, you’ll experience our signature personalized care from start to finish.

Your treatment begins with a complimentary consultation where we get to know you and your goals. Our staff will examine your tattoo and discuss your skin type, health history, and expectations.

On the day of your appointment, we’ll start by cleaning the treatment area and applying a topical numbing cream to maximize your comfort. Many clients describe the actual sensation of the laser as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Avoid using any lotions or creams on the tattoo, as clean, dry skin allows the laser energy to work most effectively. You should also wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that makes it easy to access your tattoo.

Before

In the weeks leading up to your appointment, protect your tattoo from sun exposure. If you spend time outdoors, cover the area with clothing or high-SPF sunscreen. Tanned or sunburned skin is more sensitive to laser treatment and can increase your risk of side effects.

Also, stay well-hydrated in the days before your treatment. Healthy, hydrated skin responds better to laser energy and heals more quickly afterward. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as it can thin your blood and affect healing.

If you take any medications or supplements that thin your blood (aspirin, ibuprofen, certain vitamins, etc.), talk to our team before the appointment so we can figure out if you should pause them or not.

After

Taking good care of your skin after each session is crucial for achieving the best results. We’ll also provide you with specific instructions for the best aftercare.

Immediately after your treatment, the area may look white or frosted. This is a normal reaction and will fade within hours. You may also notice some redness, swelling, or tenderness around the treated area. These effects typically subside within a few days.

It’s also important not to pick at or scratch the area, even if it feels itchy. Protect the treated area from sun exposure as it heals with sunscreen or by covering it when outdoors.

Your Questions Answered

We believe in being honest: yes, you will feel something during treatment. The feeling is similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, or tiny hot specks of oil.

The number of sessions you’ll need varies and depends on factors, including tattoo size, color(s), and your skin type. Most clients get between six to twelve sessions for significant fading or complete removal.

In most cases, if you don’t have scarring before treatment, you won’t have scarring afterward.

However, some tattoos do have texture or scarring from the original tattooing process. Laser treatment won’t remove this existing scarring, but it will remove the ink.
